Music Therapy
Why we offer music therapy
Some people come to Music Roof wanting more from music than a lesson can give. Music therapy gives us another way to support them.
Our music coaches help people learn, play and grow as musicians. With a Registered Music Therapist in the Music Roof community, we can also support people who want to work on communication, confidence, managing emotions or connecting with others.
Music therapy is a recognised form of therapy. A 2025 independent review for the NDIS found that it can be effective and beneficial for some people in the right circumstances.
What happens in a session?
You and Caio make music together. You might play an instrument, sing, drum out a rhythm, write a song, improvise or spend some time listening.
You'll talk about what matters to you, then use music to work towards those goals. Caio adapts the sessions to your needs and keeps track of your progress.
How is it different from a music lesson?
Music lessons focus on developing musical skills. In music therapy, playing or listening to music helps you work on goals outside music too.
You don't need to play an instrument or know anything about music to get started.
Who is it for?
Music therapy is open to children, teenagers and adults. It can be a good fit for neurodivergent people, people living with disability and anyone who would like support with communication, confidence, emotional regulation or connection.
For children under 12, a parent or carer stays in the room during the session. They can be on or off camera. At the first session, Caio will help you work out whether online music therapy is the right fit for your child.
Music therapy can work alongside care from your doctor, psychologist or other supports. It doesn't replace those services and isn't a crisis service

Using NDIS funding
Music therapy may be available for self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants who have music therapy included in their plan. NDIS sessions are invoiced after each appointment rather than paid four sessions upfront.
If you're unsure what your plan covers, please contact us before booking so we can check the arrangements with you.
NDIS eligibility and billing depend on the participant's plan and the applicable NDIS rules.
